Networking Does Not Work When You Use the Virtual Switch Option

SYMPTOMS

In Virtual PC, when you configure your guest PC networking settings with the Virtual Switch option, networking does not work. You cannot establish network connectivity in the guest PC operating system.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the TCP/IP protocol is not enabled on the host computer. To use the Virtual Switch option in the guest PC settings, you must have TCP/IP installed and enabled on the host computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install and enable the TCP/IP protocol in the host computer operating system.
