How to Upgrade from Virtual PC Versions 2 and 3 to Virtual PC 5

Follow these steps in the order that they are presented in to fully upgrade to Virtual PC 5.
  1. Install Virtual PC 5 on your computer.
    Follow the instructions that are provided with the software to upgrade the older version of Virtual PC correctly.
  2. After you have installed Virtual PC 5, start the program, and then start the virtual machine that contains the Windows operating system that you want to update.
  3. The Windows operating system will prompt you to insert the Windows installation CD.
    If your version of Virtual PC 5 includes a separate CD that contains the Windows Setup files, insert that disc in the CD-ROM drive. Otherwise, insert the Virtual PC 5 disc.
  4. Click OK.
    Windows Setup starts and begins to install the files and the drivers.
  5. When Setup completes, click Yes to restart Windows.
  6. After Windows restarts, click VPC Additions on the Virtual PC Toolbar.
  7. Click Install Additions.
    This will update Virtual PC Additions to version 5.
