How to create custom policies in the Groove domain management server to allow for only specific versions of TeamDirection tools

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to create custom policies in the Groove domain management server to allow only specific versions of TeamDirection tools.

MORE INFORMATION

If your Groove domain has members who are running Groove Virtual Office 3.1 or an earlier version of Groove and who are using TeamDirection tools, we recommend that you restrict updates of these tools to specific versions of TeamDirection Dashboard and TeamDirection Project. You can do this by setting device policies on Microsoft Office Groove Server 2007 Manager or on Groove Enterprise Management Server.

Note The policies affect only systems that meet the following criteria:
  • The computer is a managed Groove device in the domain.
  • The computer is running Groove Virtual Office 3.1 or an earlier version of Groove.
To allow for only specific versions of TeamDirection components to be downloaded on managed devices, follow the procedure that matches the server to create a custom installation policy.

To create a custom installation policy on Groove Server 2007 Manager, follow these steps:
  1. On the server, expand the Device Policy Templates group in the desired domain, and then click to select the appropriate template.
  2. Click the Client Policies tab.
  3. Under Install Policies, click Advanced Install Policies.
  4. Under Install Components From, click Anywhere.
  5. Click Add Install Policy.
  6. Under Allow Users to Install, click No Components. This prohibits the installation of all components that are not explicitly permitted.
  7. In the Display Name box, type TeamDirection.
  8. In the Digital Fingerprint box, typecd87 d1f6 d3de 960e 75fe 3b68 0ee5 78ec 99ba a42c. This is the fingerprint for TeamDirection components.
  9. Click Add Policy.
  10. In the Component Name box, type com.teamdirection.tdproject.v2x.TeamProject_TPL, click the operator that you want, and then type the full version number. For example, to restrict TeamDirection Project to version 2.6.0.2020 or later, chose the operator >=, and then type the version 2. Type 6, type0, and then type 2020.
  11. Under Policy, select Allow or Prompt.
  12. Click Add Policy.
  13. In the new Component Name box, type com.teamdirection.tdproject.v2x.TeamDashboard_TPL, click the operator that you want, and then type the full version number.
  14. Set the Policy to Allow or Prompt.
  15. Click to select the check box next to each of your new policies, click OK, and then click OK again.
Note For more information about custom installation policies in Groove Manager, see Appendix B of the Groove Manager Domain Administrator’s Guide, "Setting Component Policies (Groove 3.1 or Earlier)."

To create a custom installation policy on the Groove Enterprise Management Server, follow these steps:

Note The following procedure restricts all users to version 2.6.0.2020 of the TeamDirection tools.
  1. In the desired domain on the server, click the Policies tab in the right pane, and then click Edit Device Policies.
  2. Under Install Policy, click to select both the Enable Policy check box and the Deny Automatic Component Upgrade check box.
  3. Under Install Components From, click Anywhere.
  4. Under Allow All Users to Install, click No Components.
  5. Click Create a Custom Install Policy.
  6. In the Display Name box, type TeamDirection.
  7. In the Digital Fingerprint box, type cd87 d1f6 d3de 960e 75fe 3b68 0ee5 78ec 99ba a42c. This is the TeamDirection fingerprint.
  8. In the Allow Users to Install box, click No Component.
  9. Click New.
  10. In the Component Name box, type com.teamdirection.tdproject.v2x.TeamProject_TPL, click the operator that you want, and then type 2.6.0.2020 for the version number. Set the Policy to Allow.
  11. Click New.
  12. In the new Component Name box, type com.teamdirection.tdproject.v2x.TeamDashboard_TPL, click the operator that you want, and then type 2.6.0.2020 for the version number. Set the Policy to Allow.
