How to back up a Groove Data Bridge or Enterprise Integration server system

INTRODUCTION

This article describes that how to back up the following Groove servers and services:
  • Microsoft Office Server Groove Data Bridge (GDB)
  • Groove Enterprise Data Bridge (EDB)
  • Groove Enterprise Integration Server (EIS)
  • Groove Enterprise Backup Service (EBS)

MORE INFORMATION

We recommend that you periodically back up the servers and service data in the products that are listed in the "Applies to" section to avoid data loss. Additionally, we recommend that you back up the data at least weekly as part of routine maintenance. The backup image is valid for restoration for only two weeks. Discard the image after two weeks. In addition to periodic backups, back up the server before you upgrade the server software.

To back up the server, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down the server processes by using the following command:
    GrooveEIS.exe /q
  2. Wait until the process has stopped. This may take several minutes depending on the number of workspaces and the load on the server.
  3. Use your preferred file backup application to back up the following locations:
    • The boot partition
    • The partition that contains registry data
    • The Groove Data and Bin folders and their subfolders
    • The Groove workspace archive folder, if it is on a local partition
  4. Restart the server.
Note Shutting down the integration server or the data bridge server does not affect the continued use of Groove by Groove users in your organization.

Caution You must shut down all local Groove processes before you back up the server. This includes the GrooveEIS.exe process. If these processes are active, the server may try to access a file that is locked by the backup software. This can corrupt the Groove database files.
Caution Do not restore an EIS backup image when the server is still operating and is still active on the network. Restoring a backup image is intended only to recover integration server data that was irretrievably lost.
