When you view any 2007 Office system Service Pack 1 update under "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel, the title of the update contains garbage characters
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You install 2007 Microsoft
Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1). Then, you view any 2007 Office system SP1
update under Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. In this
scenario, the title of the SP1 update contains garbage
characters.
CAUSE
This issue occurs when the
2007 Office Suite
is installed by using a language
locale that differs from the current language
locale of the computer's operating system.
Specifically, the SP1 update information is encoded as ANSI text characters that are not
displayed correctly when East Asian language support is used.
