You may experience problems when you try to install Windows Live Suite products on Windows XP Starter Edition-based computers

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install some Windows Live Suite products on a Windows Live XP Starter Edition-based computer, you may experience problems.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if there is a limit to how many programs can be run at the same time on a Windows XP Starter Edition-based computer. Additionally, this issue may occur if the limit is exceeded. If the limit of programs is exceeded, the next installations fail.

Note This problem occurs because of a limitation in Windows XP Starter Edition, not because of any issue with the Windows Installer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following options.

Close all the processes before Messenger is auto-launched

  1. Close all the programs that are running.
  2. Close Microsoft Internet Explorer after the Installer starts and before the Installer auto-launches Messenger.

Install Messenger last

  1. Install all the Windows Live Products that you want except Windows Live Messenger.
  2. In the Setup window, click Add to Installation for Windows Live Messenger when the other Windows Live Products have been installed.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows XP Starter Edition has a limit of three programs and three windows per program.

When the Windows Live Installer opens Windows Live Messenger as part of the installation process on a Windows XP Starter Edition-based computer, the maximum number of running processes is exceeded. This causes the other Windows Live Products that have not yet been installed, not to install. If you close Messenger before the next installation starts, the installation of the rest of the Windows Live Products will finish without error.
