How to move the management of a Groove domain from Groove Hosted Management Services 3.1 to Groove Enterprise Services 2007, or from Groove Enterprise Management Server 3.1 to Microsoft Office Groove Server 2007

There is no direct migration path that lets you migrate a Groove domain in the following ways:

• From a Groove Hosted Management Services 3.1 domain to a Microsoft Office Groove Enterprise Services 2007 domain
• From a Groove Enterprise Management Server 3.1 domain to a Microsoft Office Groove Server 2007 domain

This article discusses how to make these migrations.

How to move a Groove domain from Hosted Management Services 3.1 to Groove Enterprise Services 2007

To move a Groove domain from Groove Hosted Management Services 3.1 to Groove Enterprise Services 2007 and upgrade all members to Groove 2007, follow these steps:

1. Create a new Enterprise Services domain. To do this, log on to Microsoft Volume License Services (MVLS) by visiting the following Microsoft Web site:
   http://licensing.microsoft.com (http://licensing.microsoft.com)
   Note Users no longer contact the former Groove Business Desk at the following e-mail address:
   grvorder@groove.net
2. Configure domain administrators.
   
   Note When you select people for administrator roles, you cannot remove the server administrator.
3. On the old Hosted Services domain, create a .CSV export file or an .XML export file of the domain members. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Visit the Groove Manager administrative Web site.
   2. On the navigation pane, expand your management domain group, and then click to select Members.
   3. On the Members page, point to Manage Members in the toolbar, and then click Export Members.
   4. In the Export dialog box, under Export, accept the default All items option.
   5. Under Format, click to select either CSV or XML as a destination file type, and then click OK.
   6. In the File Download dialog box, click Save, enter the file location for saving the .xml file or for the .csv file, and then click Save again.
4. On the new Enterprise Services domain, import the list of domain members. To do this, follow the instructions in the section "Adding Multiple Members from an .XML File" or the section "Adding Multiple Members from an .CSV File." 5. Configure policies and groups on your new domain.
6. Instruct all Groove users who are members of the domain to upgrade to Groove 2007.
7. Send all the users a Groove 2007 configuration code.
   
   Note Users must upgrade to Groove 2007 before applying the Groove 2007 configuration code. In Groove 2007, the configuration code (account code) and the license code (activation code) are two separate codes. This differs from Groove Virtual Office 3.1. You must purchase individual licenses or volume licenses for each installation of Groove 2007 in your domain.

Note Manage both domains for 30 days after the last user has been upgraded and activated. The account backup on the new Enterprise Services domain may not occur for 30 days after a member is converted from a Groove Hosted Management Services 3.1 domain to a Groove Enterprise Services 2007 domain. Users who have been converted in this manner are advised to back up their account file manually after account conversion. This is a known limitation.

How to move a Groove domain from Enterprise Management Server 3.1 to Groove Manager Server 2007

To move a Groove domain from Enterprise Management Server 3.1 to Groove Manager Server 2007 and to upgrade all members to Groove 2007, follow these steps:

1. Install the Groove Servers on separate servers.
2. On Groove Manager Server, create your domain, and then configure domain administrators.
3. On the old Enterprise Management Server domain, create a CSV export file or an XML export file of the domain members. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Visit the Groove Manager administrative Web site.
   2. On the navigation pane, expand the management domain group that you created in step 2, and then click to select Members.
   3. On the Members page, point to Manage Members in the toolbar, and then click Export Members.
   4. In the Export dialog box, accept the default All items option under Export.
   5. Under Format, click to select either CSV or XML as a destination file type, and then click OK.
   6. In the File Download dialog box, click Save, enter the file location for saving the .xml or for saving the .csv file, and then click Save again.
4. On the new Enterprise Services domain, import the list of domain members. To do this, follow the instructions in the section "Adding Multiple Members from an .XML File" or the section "Adding Multiple Members from an .CSV File" in the Microsoft® Office Groove® Server 2007 Groove Manager Domain Administrator’s Guide.
5. Configure policies and groups on your new domain.
6. Instruct all Groove users who are members of the domain to upgrade to Groove 2007.
7. Send all the users a Groove 2007 configuration code.
   
   Note Users must upgrade to Groove 2007 before they apply the Groove 2007 configuration code. Note Manage both domains for a transitional period after the last user has been upgraded and activated. The account backup on the new domain will not occur until the scheduled interval has passed. The default interval is four days. However, the interval may be set higher on both the Enterprise Management Server 3.1 server and on the Groove Manager Server 2007 server. Users who have been converted in this manner are advised to back up their account file manually after their account is converted. This is a known limitation.
