Games for Windows – LIVE: When trying to download content from Games for Windows – LIVE, you receive an error message: “Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID failed due to the following error: 80070422"
SYMPTOMS
When you try to download content from the Games for Windows – LIVE Web site, you receive the following error message:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID failed due to the following error: 80070422
CAUSE
This problem occurs either because the Microsoft Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is disabled or because you do not have permissions under your profile to use the service.
THINGS TO TRY
Note You must have Administrator permissions to make the following changes.
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
- In the Name list, locate and then double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
- In the Properties dialog box on the General tab, set the Startup type to Automatic.
- If the service is not running, click the Start button to start the service.
- Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
- Try to download the content to see whether the error is resolved.

If the error still occurs, you may have to determine whether the BITS services are configured correctly. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
- In the Name list, locate and then double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
- Click the Log On tab.
- Under Log on as, select the Local System account option.
- In the hardware profiles window, examine all listed profiles to make sure that they are set to Enabled.
- If any profile is set to Disabled, select the profile, and then click Enable.
