SP 52227: Cannot access CD/DVD drives
Symptom: When you try to access the CD/DVD drives in “My Computer”, you will notice that there is no response from the device. The drive icons are missing or a “Device Manager” error message is displayed when you select a drive.
Error Message: “error code 39”.
Possible Cause: When you remove or install a program on your computer, system registry settings that are CD/DVD specific have either been modified or removed.
Resolution: This support procedure will analyze the CD/DVD settings in the system registry and modify the settings needed to restore full access to the CD/DVD drives.
Additional Information: Other possible error codes displayed by the “Device Manager” are 19, 31, 32, or 41. You can view all other CD/DVD specific error codes in the “Device Manager” by navigating to “Start -> Control Panel -> System”, select the “Hardware” tab, click on the “Device Manager” button, then double click on the CD/DVD device to display “Device status” in the properties dialog.
