SP 50014: Cannot modify settings for ”Local Intranet”, “Trusted Sites” and “Restricted Sites” security zones

Symptom: When you open “Tools => Internet Options => Security tab and select either ”Local Intranet”, “Trusted Sites”, or “Restricted Sites”, you will find that you are unable to modify the settings for these Internet Explorer zones due to options or buttons that are grayed out.
Resolution: This change will examine the system registry and modify the Internet Explorer settings to enable the grayed out options or buttons.
