SP 52434: Enable the “Application Layer Gateway Service” to improve network security on your computer

Symptom: When you start the Services applet in “Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools”, the “Startup Type” setting for the “Application Layer Gateway Service” will be set to “Disabled”.
Resolution: Modify the system registry settings to enable “Automatic” startup for the “Application Layer Gateway Service”.
Additional Information: The “Application Layer Gateway Service” is a subcomponent of the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)/Windows Firewall service provides support for plug-ins that allow network protocols to pass through the firewall and work behind ICS. The advantage of adopting this service is that it can provide a proxy to hide the host address inside local network and restrict abnormal connections from outside.
