SP 52617: The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) service is set for automatic startup
Symptom: When you start the Services applet in “Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools”, the “Startup Type” setting for the “Universal Plug and Play” host service will be set to “Automatic”. If this service is not needed, it is suggested that the service startup be changed to “Manual” startup.
Resolution: This change will examine the system registry and modify the settings to enable “Manual” startup for the “Universal Plug and Play” host service.
Additional Information: Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is a set of computer network protocols that allow devices to connect seamlessly and to simplify the implementation of networks in the home (data sharing, communications, and entertainment) or corporate environments. The UPnP architecture supports zero-configuration networking. A UPnP compatible device from any vendor can dynamically join a network, obtain an IP address, announce its name, convey its capabilities upon request, and learn about the presence and capabilities of other devices.
