SP 50397: The “Windows Update” link is missing from the Start or IE Tools menu

Symptom: When you select “Start” on the Desktop or click on the “Tools” menu in Internet Explorer, you will notice that the “Windows Update” link is missing from the menu. A user or application with administrative rights may have set the group policy “Remove access to use all Windows Updates features” that disables showing the link. Users also can elect separately to show or hide the link in the Start menu or the IE Tools menu if the “Remove access” group policy is either “Not Configured” or “Disabled.”
Resolution: This change will examine the system registry and modify the settings to enable the “Windows Update” link to be visible in the Start menu and the IE Tools menu.
