SP 52851: The Apple Mobile Device service is currently disabled

Symptom: When the Apple Mobile Device service is disabled, iTunes will not be able to recognize or communicate with any Apple mobile devices. If you start the “Services” applet in “Control Panel => Administrative Tools”, you will notice that the “Status” column will show that the Apple Mobile Device service is disabled.
Resolution: This change will examine the system registry and modify the settings to set the Apple Mobile Device service for automatic startup.
Additional Information: You will need to restart you computer for this change to take effect.
